The National Prayer Breakfast Speech

President Obama gave a speech before the National Prayer Breakfast this morning in Washington D.C. Overall, I found the speech to be pretty good, considering the secular nature of his office, but it was too theologically syncretic for my tastes.

One statement, however, did catch my attention…

But no matter what we choose to believe, let us remember that there is no religion whose central tenet is hate.  There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being.  This much we know.

This is so true. It’s application to the not-yet-born is amazing, for what human being at every stage of his or her development is more innocent than the child in the womb? Unfortunately, I doubt the president was referring to the unborn. Three days after his inauguration, the new president overturned a ban on giving money to international groups which perform abortions and share abortion information. The ban had been signed into effect by the Bush administration.

Please pray for President Obama.

Update: Wow! Looks like I wasn’t the only one that noticed the “innocent human beings” comment. Read this.
